I was born without hands and one leg due to German measles, you may have seen me
before. I had the honour of representing South Africa at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008
and the 6th IPC World Swimming Championships in Canada 2013.
With hard work and perseverance I hope to represent my country yet again at the next
Rio de Janeiro Paralympics 2016. I believe that if I could qualify for the Beijing and London
Paralympics, I would be able to do it again.
My aim is to reach my personal best times and show my opponents what I am made of.
While trying to reach my dream yet again I was blessed to participate in the 6th IPC World
Championships in Canada in August 2013. I exceeded my wildest expectations… I was
able to set a new Africa Record in the 50m Butterfly in a time of 58.20. I took part in the 200m
Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle- placing me 8th, 9th and 10th in the World.
However, I have a drawback! My mom is a single parent and that makes reaching my goals and dreams so much more complicated. Some sponsors are really needed to assist me financially on my journey to victory and being all that I can be.
The occasional periods that I am not in the swimming pool, I’m studying at the North-West University Potchefstroom. I have completed my Diploma in Sport Science and I am now completing my BA Grade in Human Movement and Psychology. At the end of my studies I would like to have my Honours in Biokinetics where I hope to rehabilitate disabled people. I am also very proud to be an ambassador for Otto Bock S.A and ‘Jumping Kids’, an organization that assists children with disabilities. I have also swum the largest open water event in the world, the Midmar Mile. In 2014 I swam it for the 9th time consecutively. Mostly I won medals in my S5 category. I also hold the S.A Records in the 50 & 100m Butterfly.
Thank You so much!!
